Service Description

Rockhounding Meeting Place & Time Scheduled Day Start: 8 am Central Time @ TriLaBite Food Truck 605 E. Holland Ave Alpine, Texas 79830 (our final price includes a $2 processing fee) The Kokernot o6 Ranch got the brand in 1857 in Gonzales, TX. After that, the ranch was sold in favor of land around San Antonio and Lubbock. The land in Lubbock was sold to Texas Tech University. David L. Kokernot came out to the Trans-Pecos Region, to gather Mexican cattle and horses to help win the Texas revolution around 1836. I guess from what he saw… he liked it out here. After the Lubbock property was sold, he started acquiring land around Ft. Davis in the 1880s. The ranch was initially set up as a cattle operation. When Murphyville (now Alpine) got the railroad, it was easier to send cattle and get supplies. The ranch did not change that much until the 1980’s when the ranch started to allow hunting. Infrastructure, like wells, roads, fences, and trucks was constantly upgraded to make work easier. Currently, the ranch has no cows due to the recent drought, although that business actually began to decline with the beginning of fencing and the end of the long cattle drives. Now there are 19 owners of the land in partnership. Times are changing and so is the Kokernot o6.
